Apple cutting some iTunes prices

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, introduces the new 17-inch MacBook Pro at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco. The address is the first keynote delivered at Macworld since 1997 which has not been given by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Apple is cutting the price of some songs in its market-leading iTunes online music store to 69 cents and plans to begin selling all tracks without copy protection.


L.A. water cops get muscle to fight drought

The water cops  search for leaks as well as residents who use sprinklers between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., clean driveways with water instead of a broom, or otherwise waste the precious commodity.The green thumbs who keep lawns lush and flora flourishing in Los Angeles have found a new foe among the aphids, white flies and other yard pests — the water police.


Keep the shuttles flying? It'll cost you

Attached to a diesel-powered tractor, the space shuttle Endeavour is towed back to its hangar on Dec. 13 for post-mission processing.A draft NASA report says that extending shuttle operations to 2012 would cost $5 billion, but keeping the fleet flying until 2015 would cost $11 billion and severely impact the agency's exploration plans.


Brain pacemaker benefits Parkinson's patients

Sharon Pederson of Tomales, Calif., is a study subject who got deep brain stimulation surgery for her Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's patients who had electrodes implanted in their brains improved more than those who took only medicine, according to the biggest test yet of deep brain stimulation.
